He began working as a director of photography before graduating from the College of Applied Arts in 1966, by working in documentary and experimental films in the film editing company headed by Saad El-Din Wahba. Abdel-Samee worked as director of photography, supervising documentaries, and as an executive producer at the National Film Center. He has also taught cinematography since the 1960s until now. During his career that spanned more than five decades, he has shot more than 200 documentaries that express social and environmental issues, historical issues. He also worked on films about personalities and artists in various fields, and films about Egyptian civilization.
