He graduated from the Faculty of Law in 2007. Before graduating, he joined the independent theatrical troupe, Al-Tami, and participated in its shows as an actor and assistant director for three years. Meanwhile, he also joined the second class of film school at Jesuit Cairo, where he learned low budget filmmaking from director Karim Hanafi, who later became his close friend and the director of his first starring role The Farewell Gate. His debut short film (Cake with Cream) was his graduation project in 2008. Upon his graduation, he worked with the Center for Refugee and Immigration Studies of the American University, and directed the documentary film To the Sea. As an actor participated in Birds of the Nile in 2009, which was directed by his father, Magdy Ahmed Ali.
