After he received a diploma certificate in film directing from Cinecours in 2008, Karakezi attended Maisha Film Lab for screenwriting. He then directed his short film The Pardon, which won the Golden Impala Award at the Amakula Festival in Uganda and won the Best Short Award at the Silicon Valley African Festival. It was also screened at the Kenya, Zanzibar, Durban, and Images That Matter Short Film Festival in Ethiopia. In 2010, he attended Berlinale Talent Campus and developed the script Imbabazi: The Pardon with Columbia University and Maisha Film Lab. It won Best Film at Luxor African Film Festival 2014.
