Born in El-Beheira Governorate, he is considered one of the pioneers of novels in the post era of Naguib Mahfouz with whom he had solid friendship. El-Kaid also won the National Award in the Arts (2008) while his novel THE WAR IN THE LAND OF EGYPT, which turned into the film AN EGYPTIAN CITIZEN (1991), has ranked fourth among the top one hundred Arab novels. Among his novels: HAPPENING IN EGYPT NOW which turned into the film THE VISIT OF MR. PRESIDENT (1994), THE TRILOGY OF THE ELOQUENT EGYPTIAN PEASANT, LONGING PAIN, TWENTY-FOUR HOURS ONLY, UPPER-EGYPTIAN TRAIN, ADVERSARIES CUT.
