Born 1959 in Mutoko, she began her education in England where she studied medicine at Cambridge University. She wrote various plays, published a short story called THE LETTER then, in 1985, she continued her education in cinema at Deutsche Film- und Fernsehakademie Berlin. Founded in 1992, her production house Nyerai Films presented several outings including her film NYAMI NYAMI AND THE EVIL EGGS that was screened at LAFF 2012. Dangarembga is currently working on several long narratives films including INGA INGE, inspired by the story of former French figure skater Suriya Bonaly.
