After studying film direction at the Higher Institute of Cinema, he realized three long narratives and more than fifteen shorts and documentaries, winning more than twenty awards worldwide. Hendawy was also jury member in international and national film festivals and worked as a consultant and programmer for Clermont-Ferrand Festival and Dubai International Film Festival. Among his recent films: The Serial Killer (2009) and Doaa Aziza (2012) that received Best Documentary Award at Luxor African Film Festival 2014.
